GREEN HOLIDAYS IN MID WALES Near Machynlleth in Mid Wales,
Y Felin permaculture farm nestles in an idyllic secret wooded valley with
a small river running through it. It is an ancient smallholding of 3 hectares,
comprising several small meadows of unimproved grassland. In the late
spring, the wildflowers in the meadows take one back to a by-gone age
before the advent of modern agriculture. In the summer there are cattle
in the meadows and in the winter, sheep. There is a rich variety of flowers,
mammals and insects. The pond, constructed a few years ago, greatly increases
the biodiversity and intrepid visitors enjoy swimming in it. The small
Welsh cottage is sympathetically restored using traditional materials.
Organic vegetables and fruit are grown in a large vegetable garden and
polytunnel and are often available for sale, as is honey from the beehives.
The caravan has one double and one single bedroom with more sleeping places possible. It is fully equipped with cooking facilities, fridge, room heater, shower and compost toilet. It has a shady veranda, picnic table and riverside lawn with barbecue. Bedding is charged for extra if required. We ask people not to smoke inside the caravan. Maps and local information are available at the farm. We are sorry but we cannot take dogs. The quiet camping area is by the river. We accept a maximum of two family tents or up to four small tents. There is a compost toilet nearby and a modern shower is available. There is a place for a campfire. Please make reservations at least 2 days in advance. Some exerpts from our visitors book: "What a pleasure it's been to share this lovely unspoilt spot with you" "A really idyllic place to recharge out batteries" "Your caravan is so beautifully sited, we feel lucky to have found it" "To re-connect with the power and presence of raw nature is so revitalising" "As good as a Buddhist retreat" "Perfect peace and tranquility" "An inspiring place" "Children had a great time splashing about in the stream" "I came, the classic teenager with large doubts 'oh no I'm in the middle of nowhere with a compost toilet and my family! ahhh'. But I've really become an eco/peace loving/mellow convert. It's been amazing. "As always we had a great week at Y Felin"
